WEAPONS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
STUDENT ARRESTED AT GRASSO SOUTHEASTERN TECHNICAL SCHOOL, GROTON

Just prior to 12:30 p.m. today, School Administrators from the Grasso Southeastern Technical School in Groton contacted Troop E in Montville in regards to the possibility of weapons on school grounds or in possession of one of the students.

State Troopers and Groton Town Police officers were dispatched to the school. The first arriving Groton Town Police Officers, with the assistance of the school’s security personnel, were able to locate and take possession of a facsimile handgun (air-soft gun), knives, and a set of brass knuckles. Subsequently, State Troopers were able to identify a suspect (a 14-year-old student) and take that suspect into custody on the school grounds without incident.

Initial investigation has revealed that students became aware of the weapons on school grounds and alerted school administrators and school security in regards to existence of weapons on the grounds.

Upon the arrival of the police, the school was placed in a “lock down” as the search for the weapons and suspect were taking place. The school remained in lock down for approximately 30 minutes. As the lock down was lifted, school administrators and Troopers remained in the hallways of the school to reassure the student body of their safety.

Arrested:   a 14-year-old juvenile (name, D.O.B. and address not to be released)

Charges:   Possession of Weapons on School Grounds

               Breach of Peace 2nd

The juvenile will be given a court date at Juvenile Matters at Waterford.
