               STATE TROOPERS RESCUE FIRE VICTIM

                                 FROM BURNING HOUSE

DANIELSON-On August 9, 2007 at about 3:30 a.m., a house fire was reported at 41 Hawkins Street in Danielson.

Two Connecticut State Troopers on patrol, Trooper First Class Nicholas Leary, and Trooper Bryan Stadnicki, were the first to arrive at the scene and observed smoke and flame coming from the residence. Both Troopers entered the dwelling and located a 39-year-old female occupant inside the residence on the second floor.

The female was bedridden and unable to escape from the burning residence.  Troopers Leary and Stadnicki carried this woman out of the residence and turned her over to firefighters, who had arrived on scene.  The female victim had sustained burn injuries and was transported to a local hospital and transferred to Bridgeport Burn Center in stable condition.

The second floor room where these Troopers located and rescued this victim is where the fire originated.  Both troopers refused medical treatment although they encountered heavy smoke and fortunately were able to avoid the heavy flames that were beginning to take over the second floor.

Firefighter suppressed the fire, which caused extensive damage to the second floor and attic of the home.  The cause of the fire, which appears to be accidental, is under investigation.
