                  CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE ASSIST A COLORADO
                  POLICE DEPARTMENT IN INTERNET INVESTIGATION
   Members of the Fremont County (Colorado) Combined Investigative Response Team (CIRT) arrested Christopher Scott Bates, DOB 02/02/1967, on Saturday, Oct. 27, on a variety of charges stemming from an undercover Internet investigation.
   Bates was charged with the following:
  •    Criminal Solicitation, class 4 felony
  •    Sexual Assault on a Child, class 4 felony
  •    Sexual Exploitation of Children, class 3 felony
   At the time of his arrest, Bates gave an address in Norwich, Connecticut, and stated that he worked in the advertising department of a local newspaper.
   Bates is in custody at the Fremont County Detention Center and is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.
   Due to the fact that this accused is a Connecticut resident, on Saturday evening, 10/27/07 the Canon City, Colorado Police contacted the Connecticut State Police Computer Crimes Unit and requested the Connecticut State Police Detectives assist in this investigation.
   Detective from the State Police Computer Crimes Unit obtained a search and seizure warrant for the home of the accused. Detectives will continue to assist Canon City Police Department and determine if any Connecticut laws were violated.
