On 03/27/2007 a suspicious incident was reported by two juveniles on Hillsdale road in the Town of Ellington. The two juvenile reported to their parent that an unknown male subject traveling in a dark colored pick up had offered them candy as they were playing in their front yard.

The Ellington Resident Trooper’s Office investigated this suspicious incident  based on the information that the children provided.

The Ellington Resident Troopers Office also reported this information to the  Ellington School District which prompted school officials to send a letter to parents of school aged children in regards to general diligence for the safety of children in the community.

After further investigation it was determined that this incident was not criminal. The subject was a neighbor that the children did not immediately recognize. All information, facts and circumstances surrounding the incident were verified by the investigating troopers.

This incident serves as a good example why it is important for parents to reinforce stranger safety rules with their children. Take a moment to remind them about staying away from strangers, never  taking anything from strangers, and most importantly tell someone if your encounter any stranger.
