04/24/06                           UCONN SPRING WEEKEND

The Public Safety plans made and implemented by Connecticut State Police and University of Connecticut Police contributed to the overall success of the weekend celebration.

State Police made the following arrests during the three day event. People were arrested for a cross sections of violations and one of the arrests resulted in the seizure of 35 kegs of beer.

STATE POLICE ARREST: Thursday   9  criminal arrests

                                                  52 infraction tickets issued

Liquor control agents from the Department of Consumer Protection visited and inspected licensed liquor outlets in the UCONN area. Agents cited two stores for sales of alcohol to minors on Wednesday, April 18, 2006. Those stores are Villa Spirits Shoppe at 591 Middle Turnpike, Storrs and Ted’s Spirit Shoppe at 125 North Eagleville Road, Storrs.  Liquor agents were also on hand to verify that only people of legal age were acquiring alcoholic liquor from establishments in the area.The two stores charged with selling liquor to minors will be brought before the Liquor Control Commission for an administrative hearing.

Over the weeknd State and Uconn Police encountered crowds of well over 10,000 people each night. Overall, the students were well informed by university officals of all the rules and laws prior to the event.

The overall success of this weekend was a direct results of all the different  agencies involvement.
