Incidents from Troop I area
net Service Awards

Law enforcement officers and civilians received awards from the Connecticut State Police based on incidents from the Troop I area.  The awards were presented during a ceremony on Wednesday, November 29, at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden.

Twice a year, the Connecticut State Police honors those who demonstrated extraordinary service.  Award winners received medals and certificates from Department of Public Safety Commissioner Leonard C. Boyle and State Police Colonel Edward Lynch.

New Canaan Officer Bryan W. Connolly, Corrections Officer Jason Ile

On June 28, 2006, New Canaan Officer Bryan W. Connolly was off duty and traveling on Route 8 in Shelton on his way to work.  He came upon a single vehicle accident and stopped to assist.  The vehicle was on fire and the operator trapped inside. Without regard for his own safety, Officer Connolly cut the seatbelt from the driver and, with assistance from Corrections Officer Jason Ile, pulled her from the vehicle. Shortly after, the entire vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. Officer Connolly and Officer Ile were commended for their quick response to this life-threatening emergency.  They each received Lifesaving awards.

         Richard Lulis, John Dostilo and Brian Oertel

         On May 10, 2006, a van traveling on Route 15 in Wallingford drifted off the highway, rolled over and burst into flames.  Three civilians, Richard Lulis, John Dostilo and Brian Oertel stopped to assist. They disregarded their own safety and pulled the driver to safety. Richard Lulis, John Dostilo and Brian Oertel selflessly entered into this dangerous situation without fear for their own safety and performed admirably under challenging and difficult circumstances. They were presented with Commissioner’s Recognition awards.
