On August 28, 2006, State Police Detectives assigned to the Department of Public Safety, Division of Scientific Services, Computer Crimes and Electronic Evidence Laboratory received a complaint and initiated a criminal investigation regarding identity theft, and theft of credit card information. The victim reported that on 08/25/06, her personal credit card information was stolen and used to make several unauthorized Internet purchases.

The Computer Crimes Unit criminal investigation focused on the identity theft. During the course of the investigation, State Police Detectives discovered that the suspect had utilized a public computer terminal to make unauthorized Internet purchases.
