STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE

  NEW HAVEN POLICE SHOOTING

Today 10/04/06 late this afternoon New Haven Police initiated a criminal investigation into a bank robbery in New Haven.  The investigation led New Haven officers to a townhouse residence located at74 Fowler Street in New Haven.

New Haven Police determined that the suspect was inside and was possibly armed. Police Officers surrounded the residence and with the assistance of the New Haven Tactical Team Officers attempted to communicate with the suspect to convince him to surrender to police.

Early this evening after a lengthy standoff New Haven Police made a decision to enter the townhouse to locate the suspect. New Haven Police Officers were confronted by the suspect and were forced to discharged their weapons severely wounded the suspect.  The suspect was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he is reported to be in serious condition. The suspect has been identified as Christopher ANDERSON age 45 d.o.b. 08/31/1961 last known address of 74 Fowler Street, New Haven, CT.

At the Request of the New Haven State’s Attorney Office The Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the police discharge of their weapons in the line of duty at this scene.

The State Police Central District Major Crime Squad was assigned to conduct the shooting investigation.

The identity of the two Police Officers who discharged their weapons is being withheld at this time. 

The shooting incident is under investigation by State Police.
