            STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE BRIDGEPORT POLICE SHOOTING

On 05/03/06 at approximately 10:45 p.m. 2 Bridgeport Police Officers on routine patrol observed a suspect vehicle that was wanted for an earlier armed Robbery in the city of Bridgeport.  As the Bridgeport Police Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle the driver refused to stop and engaged the police officers in a pursuit.

The suspect vehicle traveled for a short distance and while traveling on Iranistan Ave. suspect vehicle made a sudden left turn onto Black Rock where the operator lost control and crashed into a parked car.

The Bridgeport Officers then attempted to approach the suspect vehicle when suddenly the driver of that vehicle drove directly at the police officers attempting to strike them with the vehicle. Both Bridgeport Officers discharged their service weapons which caused the suspect vehicle to crash into a chain link fence.

The officer again approached the suspect car and found the driver of the car seriously injured. EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect dead. Both Bridgeport Officers were transported by EMS to Bridgeport Hospital for non-life threatening injury. Both officers where they were treated and released. 

Bridgeport Police Officers secured the shooting scene. The Bridgeport Police Chief and the State’s attorney Office requested the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad to be assigned to conduct the investigation into this Police shooting.

State Police Detectives responded and have initiated an investigation into this incident. The identification of the deceased male is being withheld at this time pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will conduct a post mortem examination to determine the exact manner and cause of death.

The incident remains under investigation by State Police.
