Connecticut State Police Canine Unit 
Bloodhound Training Class Graduates

On February 13, 2006, a new training class of seven law enforcement officials began the process to be certified as canine handlers of bloodhounds.

These K-9 teams experienced instructional and practical training that prepared them to conduct searches for missing or wanted persons in complicated situations.

The bloodhound search dog trainers are both current and out of state bloodhound instructors. They include former CT State Troopers Andy Rebmann and Dave Bardger, and Roger Titus of the Sheriffs Department in New Jersey.

Currently the Connecticut State Police have three bloodhounds that are assigned to and handled by staff members of the State Police Canine Unit.

This new class is currently comprised of seven handlers:

·        4 Connecticut State Troopers 

·        1 State of Connecticut Department of Correction Officer 

·        1 Massachusetts State Trooper

·        1 Officer from the Billerica, MA Police Department  

Bloodhounds are primarily used by law enforcement for complex searches involving missing and/or wanted persons. 

A gradation ceremony will take place on 03/03/06 at 9:00 a.m. at the Connecticut State Police K-9 Training facility on Colony St. in Meriden, CT.
