As of 4:00 PM, Eversource and UI were reporting a total of approximately 63,000 customers without power across the state. The Connecticut Department of Transportation is currently reporting 34 road closures from downed trees and wires across the state. Winds are currently gusting from the west southwest at 35 – 45 MPH.
During the next three hours, towns can expect temperatures to rapidly drop from near 50 F down into the 20’s with wind chills approaching 0 F by 7:00 PM in Western CT. The HRRR model is forecasting that snow showers moving across the state this evening and overnight may deposit a dusting to around an inch of snow in some towns. Along the southeast coast, on-shore winds off Long Island Sound may produce “sound-effect” snow with 1” – 3” possible within a few miles of the coast in New London county.
Lows tonight are forecast to range from 0 to +10 F with wind chills ranging from zero to -15 F. Temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing until next Tuesday. This may cause a hazard for any homes that remain without power over the weekend.
