APPROXIMATELY 84,000 CUSTOMERS REMAIN WITHOUT POWER ACROSS THE STATE…WIND ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE STATE…A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE STATE FROM 1:00 – 3:00 PM WITH GUSTY WEST WINDS OF 40 – 50 MPH AND RAPIDLY FALLING TEMPERATURES…

As of 12 Noon Eversource and UI were reporting a total of approximately 84,000 customers without power across the state.  The Connecticut Department of Transportation is currently reporting approximately 40 road closures from downed trees and wires across the state.  Winds are currently gusting from the south at 25 35 MPH.  Radar is showing a line of showers approaching from the west.  This line is associated with a very strong cold front which should be entering western CT in the next 45 minutes.

As the cold front moves from west to east across the state during the next few hours, strong westerly winds will develop behind the front and are forecast to gust to 40 50 MPH at times by mid-afternoon.  In addition, temperatures are forecast to drop from near 50 F down to near freezing in approximately 3 hours after the front passes thru.

Lows tonight are forecast to range from 0 to +10 F with wind chills ranging from zero to -15 F.  Temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing until next Tuesday.   This may cause a hazard for any homes that remain without power over the weekend
