HEAT ADVISORIES IN EFFECT FOR TODAY THRU TUESDAY… 4-DAY HEAT WAVE EXPECTED TODAY UNTIL WEDNESDAY…

EXWU0035 - Heat Wave 6-28-2021

The second heat wave of this summer is expected during the next 4 days.  The NWS has issued Heat Advisories for most of the state (except for Litchfield county).  The Heat Advisories have taken effect already in Northern CT, and will start in Southern CT Monday afternoon.  The Heat Advisories will continue until at least Tuesday evening.

For today, high temperatures are forecast to reach near 90 F (green dashed line on plot) with the heat index (red dashed line showing how hot it actually feels) between 95 - 100 F.  The full sun temperature may reach close to 105 F.

For the period from Monday to Wednesday we can expect highs in the mid 90’s with moderate to high humidity and the heat index between 95 – 105 F.

These hot and humid conditions may cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke for persons working outdoors.  The elderly and very young are especially vulnerable to the heat.  In addition, overnight lows will be an uncomfortable 70 – 75 F for anyone without air conditioning.

Any municipalities which open cooling centers are asked to enter the location of the center and the hours of operation into WebEOC under the incident name “Heat Wave June 27-30”.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to closely monitor the latest forecasts.

Another heat wave update will be sent out Monday morning at 10:00 AM.

Sincerely,

Doug Glowacki
