Learn about Social Security Disability benefits
The federal Social Security Administration (SSA) offers two programs for people with disabilities who are unable to work and need assistance:
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides monthly payments to people who can no longer work due to a medical condition expected to last a year or longer. It requires a work history.
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides monthly payments to people with disabilities who have low income and few resources. It does not require a work history.
Head to the SSA website to explore both programs, apply for benefits, and more.
