The Office of the Healthcare Advocate's outreach and education efforts include education on insurance coverage, managed care, and your rights to medically necessary healthcare by your insurance company. We make presentations to community, provider and advocacy groups, and have recently started our new cable access television series, “Your Health Matters”, which should appear on your local community access station.
OHA’s other major program activities include: providing advocacy services, at no charge, to individuals who have been denied coverage or a claim by their insurance company for a service that is medically necessary; educating consumers in the insurance plan selection process; and proposing legislation to remove unnecessary barriers to healthcare access under managed care plans.
OHA has forged positive working relationships with Connecticut’s legislative and executive branches, as well as our Congressional delegation and health advocacy organizations nationwide to stay at the forefront of healthcare reform efforts. We have played a critical role in the creation of national mental health parity legislation, the effort to stop the unwarranted rescission of insurance policies, and the state and national efforts to improve access to the healthcare system.
