River Valley Services (RVS), a community mental health center is operated by the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and serves the towns of ChesterClinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Ivoryton, Killingworth, Lyme, Middlefield, Middletown, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland and Westbrook. RVS’s goal is to provide the highest quality crisis intervention, case management, and residential and clinical services to adult citizens, 18 years of age and older, who suffer from serious mental disorders and who lack the financial means to secure such services in the private sector. RVS is accredited by the Joint Commission and offers short term respite residential services, community support programs, mobile crisis response team, jail diversion programs and various other supportive services. Learn More About RVS

 

About the Chief Executive Officer

As the CEO for RVS, Sarah Gadsby is responsible for the clinical and administrative oversight of the lead mental health authority in Region 2 and its affiliated agencies contracted by DMHAS. RVS provides quality outpatient services to Middlesex County and the towns of Lyme and Old Lyme. Serving over 1,200 clients each year in addition to providing Respite services, Residential and a Mobile Response Team 24 hours a day 7 days a week. 

Sarah is passionate about ensuring RVS provides quality evidence-based clinical practice to our most vulnerable populations in an environment that offers hope and compassion. She believes in the dignity, worth and potential of every person we serve. As a Mental Health Leader, she oversees the development and implementation of behavioral health programming fincluding connecting with stakeholders and community leaders to support service delivery and enhancement.

Sarah has over 25 years of experience in the mental health field in both the state and private sectors. She is a member of the Connecticut Disaster Behavioral Health Network that responds to the mental health needs of individuals following a major disaster. As a licensed Clinical Social Worker, she specializes in trauma informed care and service delivery, chairing the RVS Trauma and Gender state initiative.
