Piclo Energy

Applications close 9/27!

Via The Connecticut Innovative Energy Solutions (IES) Program, Piclo has partnered with Eversource and United Illuminating to launch Connecticut’s first Distributed Energy Resource (DER) marketplace. DERs are assets that have demand, generation, or storage capability – such as batteries, EV chargers, smart thermostats, and rooftop solar. As a technology-agnostic platform, the new energy flexibility marketplace is able to partner with all types of DER, as well as commercial & industrial businesses, in Connecticut.
By streamlining the digital process on Piclo Flex, Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) can coordinate with businesses across the state to balance the grid.

This pioneering initiative has created new energy flexibility incentive opportunities for the winter season of 2024/2025, for DER owners, operators, and aggregators, including electric vehicle charge point operators, battery developers, and residential or commercial load aggregators.

As New England’s first local DER flexibility market, this is a significant innovation for not only Connecticut, but also the region. This project demonstrates innovative approaches to reduce costs for Electric Distribution Companies (EDCs) and ratepayers, as well as incentivizes Connecticut’s local green economy.

The qualification deadline to participate in the winter cycle is September 27th, 2024. Read more about the initiative here, and please reach out to support@piclo.energy to learn more.

Connecticut Association of Flood Managers (CAFM) Conference

CAFM will convene its 11th Annual Conference and Meeting at Central Connecticut State University Student Center in New Britain, Connecticut on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

A cornerstone of CAFM’s mission is to educate a broad range of professionals regarding recent flooding concerns and other issues and problems associated with managing flood risk, making communities more resilient, disaster recovery, and the protection of floodplains. Our goal for this conference is to examine the current challenges facing Connecticut and share experiences and lessons learned as flood managers and municipal officials.

DOT Resilience Improvement Plan

Submit feedback by 10/4/24.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing a Resilience Improvement Plan (RIP) to help identify climate-related vulnerabilities and prioritize solutions across the agency’s multi-modal transportation network. The plan will be conducted in two phases. Phase one will conduct a risk-based vulnerability assessment that draws on existing and future climate data to rank vulnerability of state-owned assets. In the second phase, CTDOT will develop an implementation plan identifying potential projects, timelines, and cost-estimates.
A survey is open to the public to provide feedback on what types of projects CTDOT should consider to improve resiliency across the state. Please complete by October 4. Please email any questions to DOTresilience@ct.gov.

Sustainable CT

Sustainable CT is a voluntary certification program to recognize thriving and resilient Connecticut municipalities. An independently funded, grassroots, municipal effort, Sustainable CT provides a wide-ranging menu of best practices. Municipalities choose Sustainable CT actions, implement them, and earn points toward certification.

Sustainable CT also provides opportunities for grant funding to help communities promote economic well-being and enhance equity, all while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment. The program is designed to support all Connecticut municipalities, regardless of size, geography or resources. Sustainable CT empowers municipalities to create high collective impact for current and future residents.

Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation

The Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation (CIRCA) is dedicated to enhancing the resilience and sustainability of communities facing the growing impacts of climate change on natural, built, and human environments. CIRCA brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts to develop practical solutions for climate-related challenges, with a focus on Connecticut’s coastal and inland floodplain communities. Current programming includes research to improve scientific understanding of climate impacts, the development of best practices for resilience, and pilot projects aimed at protecting both ecosystems and infrastructure. Through collaboration and education, CIRCA fosters climate-literate, adaptive communities that can mitigate the risks posed by severe weather and environmental change.
