CHRO Executive Director Tanya Hughes

Tanya Hughes is an attorney and public administrator who serves as the Executive Director of the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO). She was appointed to this role in 2013 and has played a key role in advancing civil rights enforcement, public education, and anti-discrimination efforts across Connecticut.  

Hughes began her career at the CHRO as an investigator and staff attorney, later rising through the ranks to leadership. As executive director, she has focused on improving agency effectiveness, expanding outreach, and overseeing initiatives such as racial profiling prevention efforts and statewide equity and disparity studies. 

Her community involvement includes her membership in the LInks, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. She is also a Board Trustee for Optimus Healthcare Foundation in Fairfield County, CT. She is a member of the Hamden Democratic Town Committee, representing District 7.
