SIM HEC Charrette - July 11, 2019

The Connecticut Office of Health Strategy (OHS) and the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) are collaborating on a new multi-year statewide initiative, designed to help communities prevent poor health outcomes by improving community health and health equity. The Health Enhancement Communities (HEC) initiative is focused on: (1) Improving child well-being in Connecticut from pre-birth to 8 years of age, and (2) Improving healthy weight and physical fitness for all residents.

OHS and DPH would like community members representing a diverse set of stakeholders to participate in a session, where we will work through two scenarios to inform how this initiative would actually work in communities. To this end, a half-day session is scheduled for Thursday, July 11th with stakeholders across multiple sectors.

In the session, groups will hear an overview about what the Health Enhancement Community initiative is, and then will walk through two sample scenarios: one about how a Health Enhancement Community would help a sample family, and the other about how collaborating partners might organize and take action within their communities. The groups will use the scenarios to do an interactive “tabletop exercise” in groups. Those groups will work with the scenarios to identify what would work, and what wouldn't work. The goal is to give OHS and DPH nuanced input using realistic scenarios, as they plan for the next phase of work.

Please let us know if you would be interested in participating in this session. We are looking for diverse representation, and would greatly value your input.

RSVP to Jeannina Thompson (jeannina.thompson@ct.gov) by noon on Monday, July 8, 2019. Space is limited, so RSVPs will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
