Recruit Class 71
Spring 2022: February 14th – May 24th, 2023
Applicant for Class 71 requires a CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) card issued no earlier than February 14, 2021.
Recruit Class 72
Fall 2023: August 28th – December 8th, 2023
Applicant for Class 72 requires a CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) card issued no earlier than August 28, 2021.

Connecticut Firefighters Physical Fitness Assessment and Preparation
The demands on the body and body’s energy systems while wearing PPE and SCBA, carrying equipment, and performing more realistic firefighting operations is far more challenging than CPAT.
Candidates should complete the Connecticut Firefighters Physical Fitness Assessment prior to the start of a Recruit class.
Candidates should also use the Preparation guide to measure their level of fitness and strive to meet the FAIR or AVERAGE performance categories of each standard prior to attending a Recruit Firefighter Program.
Whether preparing for career as a firefighter or a Recruit Firefighter Program, the better your physical condition, the greater the chance your body can adapt to the rigorous training. It is imperative to be in the best shape possible.
