Information on COVID-19 and Drinking Water:
- Currently, there is no evidence that the COVID-19 virus survives the disinfection process for drinking water which most public water systems have. Americans can continue to use and drink water from their tap as usual.
- EPA recommends that Americans continue to use and drink tap water as usual. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that the, “presence of the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies and based on current evidence the risk to water supplies is low.” even for smaller public water systems that do not disinfect.
- Further, using bottled water or boiling your tap drinking water is not required as a precaution against COVID-19.
