DOH COMMISSIONER SEILA MOSQUERA-BRUNO, REP. JOE COURTNEY CUT THE RIBBON AT NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN STONINGTON
The Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) and State Rep. Greg Howard along with other officials cut the ribbon today at the Spruce Meadows, a new affordable housing development in Stonington.
Spruce Meadows, which is in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington, will be home to 43 new affordable housing units for people making between 25% and 100% of Area Median Income (AMI).
DOH provided more than $8.3 million in funding to support construction of the new development.
“I am so pleased to be here to celebrate the opening of 43 new units of affordable housing in Stonington,” said Commissioner Mosquera-Bruno. “We need more units across the state, and the department is proud to have supported this new development.”
The Connecticut Finance Housing Authority provided nearly $5 million in funding to support the project.
“As the State’s allocation agency of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, we are proud to have contributed to the creation of this diverse community in Pawcatuck,” said Nandini Natarajan, CEO-Executive Director of CHFA. “This development will welcome residents of all income levels, fostering inclusivity and opportunity for all.”
The development will have one, two and three bedroom units with the following breakdown: five one-bedroom units at 25% AMI, five two-bedroom units at 25% AMI, one three-bedroom unit, eleven one-bedroom units at 50% AMI, eight two-bedroom units at 50% AMI, two three-bedroom units at 50% AMI, one two-bedroom units at 60% AMI, one three-bedroom unit at 60% AMI, four one-bedroom units at 100% AMI, three two-bedroom units at 100% AMI, two three-bedroom unit at 100% AMI.
Connecticut faces a housing shortage, particularly for low- and middle-income earners. The new budget passed in the most recent legislative session provides $810 million for housing development and housing financial assistance. Through those investments, the Lamont Administration has set the goal of creating 6,400 units of new affordable housing.
