Remote Supports for Residents
What are remote supports?
Remote support are a virtual aid provided by paid staff or natural supports who help someone through technological devices to engage in live, two-way communication. Remote supports allows DDS or adjacent staff to virtually help someone use technology. This virtual support is done through live, two-way communication.
Remote supports may include:
- Motion sensing system
- Radio frequency identification
- Live video or audio feed
- GPS tracking
- Web-based oversight system
- A device that otherwise meets the requirement for two-way communication
Who can get remote supports?
Someone who needs virtual supports can schedule it on demand, or in response to an alert from a device in a Remote Support Technology System. DDS provides remote supports to help individuals with intellectual disability use technology, improve their skills, promote independence, and maintain health and safety. If your care team thinks you can benefit from remote supports, they can develop an in-person plan to provide these services. Remote supports may or may not be provided through:
- Group day, Individualized Home Supports (IHS)
- Individualized Day (ID)
- Supported Employment (SE)
- Respite
- Personal Support
- Adult Companion
- Individualized Goods and Services, and/or Assistive Technology
