BOARD OF PHYSICIANS RECOMMENDS NEW CONDITION AND MORE RESEARCH ON OPIOID USE DISORDER/OPIATE WITHDRAWAL

Monday, June 25th 2018 – This morning, the Board of Physicians met to consider Opioid Use Disorder/Opiate Withdrawal and Progressive Degenerative Disc Disease of the Spine. This meeting was a follow up to the February 26th public hearing where the Board requested more information specifically from addiction specialists regarding Opioid Use Disorder/Opiate Withdrawal. The record was left open until the end of March for all members of the public, including addiction specialists to submit written testimony to the Board.

The Board voted not to recommend Opioid Use Disorder/Opiate Withdrawal, and refined Progressive Degenerative Disc Disease of the Spine, and voted to recommend Chronic Neuropathic Pain Associated with Degenerative Spinal Disorders for adult patients.

“Our program is so successful because of the involvement of the medical community, including the state’s Board of Physicians,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull, “The medical community can also play a key role regarding research of medical marijuana and the benefits it gives more than 26,000 patients in Connecticut. I want to thank the Board for today’s meeting, and for encouraging more people to get involved with research in the state.”

More information about the state’s research program and how to apply can be found on DCP’s website here.
