FEDERAL CITIZEN INFORMATION CENTER (FCIC)

FCIC is the focal point for quickly obtaining information about the federal government or securing help with a specific problem.  Their purpose is to give individual answers to questions or to put them in direct contact with an expert who can.  There is no question too complicated. FCIC’s job is to search until they can find someone in the government who can provide the answer.

FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (FCC)

The FCC is a federal agency that conducts investigations on radio and television programming.  FCC regulates the number and type of radio and TV stations.  It sees that stations operate in the public interest and are responsive to area needs, and makes sure that they avoid false or misleading advertisements.The FCC also has jurisdiction over cable TV in conjunction with state and local authorities.

FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION (FTC)

The FTC is an independent law enforcement agency charged by Congress to protect consumers against anti-competitive behavior and unfair and deceptive business practices.  The FTC has the authority to stop business practices that restrict competition or that deceive or otherwise injure consumers.  Anyone can file a complaint with the FTC and include as much supporting evidence as possible. 

The FTC has regulation power with regards to mail and telephone order merchandise, and telemarketing. The commission proceeds only against practices of significant interest to the public.The FTC is not a consumer complaint handling service. It regulates the acts and practices of businesses and sometimes entire industries for the benefit of the public as a whole.  it is not authorized to resolve consumer problems on an individual basis.

FOOD & DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA)

The FDA enforces laws to ensure that foods are safe, pure and wholesome, that drugs and medical devices are safe and effective; that cosmetics are safe and that all are honestly and informatively labeled and packaged.  It maintains a constant surveillance of the food, drugs, and cosmetics shipped into the U.S. to ensure their compliance with the law.

NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA)

This national agency is part of the US Department of Transportation.  NHTSA investigates safety defects in motor vehicles, sets and enforces fuel economy standards, helps states and local communities reduce the threat of drunk drivers, promotes the use of safety belts, child safety seats and air bags, investigates odometer fraud, establishes and enforces vehicle anti-theft regulations and provides consumer information on motor vehicle safety topics.

NHTSA also conducts research on driver behavior and traffic safety, to develop the most efficient and effective means of bringing about safety improvements.
