The Connecticut Department of Banking Foreclosure Prevention Program
In Connecticut, the Department of Banking operates a Foreclosure Prevention Program to assist homeowners who are attempting to achieve a loan  modification and prevent foreclosure.  Homeowners should visit the Department of Banking’s website, which has valuable information on avoiding scams, applying for loan modifications, and navigating the foreclosure process. Homeowners can also call the Foreclosure Assistance Hotline at (877) 472-8313.
 
The Obama Administration’s Making Home Affordable Program (HAMP)
The Obama Administration’s Making Home Affordable Program includes opportunities to modify or refinance your mortgage to make your monthly payments more affordable.  It also includes the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program for homeowners who are interested in a short sale or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure.  Details of the program are available on the HAMP website. Homeowners may also call the HOPE hotline at 888-995-HOPE for more information and assistance.
HUD Approved Loan Counselors
Homeowners attempting to achieve a HAMP loan modification with their mortgage loan servicer may wish to contact a HUD-approved loan counselor who can provide assistance with the application process for obtaining a modification pursuant to the federal HAMP guidelines.  A list of the organizations in Connecticut offering such assistance is available on the following HUD webpage.
The Connecticut Fair Housing Center Foreclosure Prevention Program
Homeowners facing a judicial foreclosure action should consult a useful manual on the foreclosure process published by the Connecticut Fair Housing Center, a non-profit organization.  The manual, entitled “Representing Yourself in Foreclosure: A Guide for Connecticut Homeowners” is available on the Connecticut Fair Housing Center’s website along information on foreclosure prevention clinics offered to homeowners.
