The Respite Care Program offers the opportunity for caregivers of Veterans in the community to have relief from their duties for a scheduled period of time. This is a short-term program. A Veteran is allowed up to 28 days for a respite admission per one-year period starting with the first trial admission. The length of respite stay is a minimum of 5 days per occurrence. There is no cost for this program.
A respite admission can be scheduled by contacting the Hospital Admission Coordinator based on availability of a respite bed. If a respite bed is not available to meet the Veterans needs, you will need to pursue respite options in the community. You will need to discuss any potential costs with the community resources you contact.
