Consumer Protection Issues Summary Suspension For 75 Center in Southington
HARTFORD – Today, Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli signed a summary suspension of the liquor permit for 75 Center (LCA.7882), located 75 Center Street in Southington.
This suspension is the result of a referral to the DCP Liquor Control Division from the Southington Police Department on March 25, 2024, regarding events that occurred on March 23, 2024.
On March 23, 2024, Southington police responded to a report of a large fight and assault that began inside and spilled outside the premises. Responding officers found two employees of the premises with stab wounds in the head, neck and face.
In his letter to DCP, Southington Police Chief John Daly wrote that his department reviewed calls for service at 75 Center Street, Southington, within the past year and identified nine calls. He wrote, “these calls for service include: patrons overdosing on drugs inside the establishment, physical altercations that started inside the establishment and spill out onto the sidewalk in front of the establishment, intoxicated patrons passing out inside the establishment and needing medical attention, two calls [involving patrons] . . . leaving the establishment and then pulled firearms out and pointed them at people in front of the establishment, [and] patrons with firearms inside the establishment.”
“It is clear from the incident last weekend, the repeated calls for service and the additional complaints received by our office that 75 Center is not operated in a manner that meets the expectations and responsibilities that come with holding a liquor permit in our state,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “Thank you to the Southington Police Department for their work in bringing this matter to our attention.”
The premise license is immediately suspended, and the establishment is closed until further notice. The permit was first issued by DCP on January 10, 2017 and has been renewed annually with the current permit set to expire on May 9, 2024. A copy of the letter from Southington Police Chief John Daly, the suspension placard, and summary suspension order are attached.
