Secretary Thomas Honors Local Leaders at “Champions of Change: A Black History Month Tribute"

(Hartford, CT) — Connecticut Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas recently spoke at the “Champions of Change: A Black History Month Tribute” event, hosted by the New Britain Common Council and Delegation. This event recognized remarkable community members who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in leadership, resilience and a steadfast commitment to fostering positive change within the city.

Speaking to a room filled with local leaders, residents and elected officials, Secretary Thomas reflected on the power of civic engagement and the importance of collective action in shaping a stronger, more inclusive future.

“Real change doesn’t happen overnight, nor does it happen only on Election Day — it happens when dedicated individuals step up, stay engaged and take action year-round,” shared Secretary Thomas. “Tonight, we celebrate the Champions of Change who embody this spirit, reminding us that progress is not something that we wait for but something we create together.”

In her address, Secretary Thomas acknowledged the significance of the evening, celebrating the honorees’ dedication to progress while emphasizing the importance of civic engagement. She encouraged attendees to carry forward and use their own voices to shape a more engaged and inclusive community.
