50-5, Funeral and Burial Expenses

 
Explanation                         This policy has been updated to clarify that DCF staff shall consult with the Department of Social Services (DSS) when an adult or child client is in need of funeral and burial expenses and shall assist the surviving family members with the DSS application process.  DSS may, under its policies, provide up to $1,800 for the funeral and burial expenses of an indigent person or a person who has received certain DSS benefits. Any funeral and burial expense benefit available through DSS may be reduced by the value of a life insurance policy, a pre-paid funeral plan or other asset available to the survivors in accordance with state statute and DSS policy.
