What Teens Can do for Teen Safe Driving Week
and All Year Long
The leading cause of death for teenagers isn't heart disease, cancer or suicide...It's car accidents!
A Tribute to a Special Friend
Taylor, a student from Holy Cross High School, lost her best friend to a car accident. Read Taylor's Tribute to a Special Friend.  Share your stories to help encourage teens to be safer drivers.  E-mail the DMV Teen Driving Center at DMV.Webmaster@ct.gov.
Tips for Teens
Make sure you and your passengers are safe every time you get behind the wheel! Follow these tips not only during teen driving week but all year long.
Buckle up!  Make sure you and all of your passengers have their seat belts on before putting the vehicle into "drive."
Put down your cell phone!  Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of teenage accidents.  Pull your vehicle over before calling or texting.  Connecticut has a strict cell phone law!
Slow Down! Speeding is another leading cause of accidents in teens.  Obey all posted speed limit signs.
Do Not Drink and Drive!  Drinking and driving is against the law.  You might not just lose your license but you could also lose your life or the life of a friend.  Hear directly from teens who have to live everyday with their choice to drink and drive.
Obey the Law!  Connecticut has new teen driving laws for 16- and 17-year-olds.
Get Involved
Get involved in your school and your community to help promote teen safe driving.
  • Create a Public Service Announcement for the DMV's Teen driving Video Contest "From the Driver's Seat to the Director's Chair."

  • Join the SADD chapter at your high school.  If your school doesn't have a SADD chapter talk to a teacher or administrator about starting a Teen Safe Driving Group. The best way to reach other teens is through teens like you.
  • Talk to your friends about driving safely.  Make a pledge to each other never to drive carelessly.
