New Canaan Teen Creates Video
About "Green Driving" Tips for Teens

Teens also need to be aware of environmental Issues

WETHERSFIELD – Spurred by a personal concern over the effects of climate change, Katherine Schultz of New Canaan, a newly-licensed, now seventeen year old driver, saw an opportunity to help a new generation of drivers become more environmentally responsible drivers.

Entitled “From Teen Driver to Green Driver”, the four minute video provides important tips for drivers to lower their fuel consumption and emissions. Tips include keeping one’s engine properly tuned and tires properly inflated, to knowing when to stop unnecessary idling.

Katherine Schultz co-conceived, co-wrote and stars in the video. Her co-collaborator was her father Bob Schultz. The video was done with the support and guidance of the State of Connecticut’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

Bill Seymour, DMV Director of Corporate and Public Relations who oversees the DMV Center on Teen Safe Driving, said, “This video is important for any driver to see, but especially for teens, so that they learn early about the need for environmental awareness when driving. This informative, hands-on approach reflects Katherine's hard work and dedication to raising awareness among teens.”

The genesis of the video effort came about when Katherine and her father talked about her driver’s education class and awareness of a teen’s role in environmentally responsible driving. Seeing an opportunity, Katherine researched the topic, drafted key tips and helped to formulate the video’s direction. She also made her acting debut. The video was directed and produced by Helio Abdal, an associate of the Schultzs.

Katherine is a junior at Greenwich Academy and resides in New Canaan, CT.
