Connecticut Core ELA Standards

This searchable database links the ELA/Literacy standards to the assessment targets on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments. These summative assessments in Connecticut will remain the same as prior years, so this database can be used to see how the standards align with the test blueprint. The test blueprint determines the content and format of items that will be on the summative assessments for Grades 3-8. Each claim is broken down into multiple assessment targets that are supported by multiple standards. Where a standard supports more than one target, that standard has been listed for each corresponding target in this database. The Connecticut ELA/Literacy Summative Assessment Blueprint groups targets and adaptively administers items from each group. Thus, is not possible to give precise estimates of how many items will be drawn from individual standards.

Some standards are identified as “high-leverage” standards for the purposes of teaching, learning and measuring growth. Student Achievement Partners has, identified these as “priority” standards for ELA in the 2020-2021 school year. However, it is important to remember that all standards contribute to moving students toward college and career readiness.

Most targets (and hence most standards) are assessed on the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments. In addition, many targets can be assessed using the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessment Blocks. If a standard is assessed on the summative or one of the Interim Blocks, it is noted in the drop-down for that standard.
