HARTFORD, CT –Lt. Governor Bysiewicz joined State Veterans Affairs Commissioner Thomas Saadi, statewide veteran leaders and Hmong General Sar Phouthasack at the Middletown Military Museum in Middletown today for the signing of a policy by Commissioner Saadi—the first of its kind at a state level in the nation—providing burial rights for the Hmong and Laotian Special Guerrilla Unit Veterans residing in Connecticut who operated in support of the United States military, during the War in Vietnam.

Governor Lamont and Lt. Governor Bysiewicz to Netflix, Disney, and AMC: Come to Connecticut
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz today told top executives of Netflix, Disney, and AMC that Connecticut is a perfect location for them to conduct business, following recent announcements from all three companies that they are considering pulling the production of their respective movies and television shows out of Georgia after that state passed one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation.

Governor Lamont Signs Laws Banning Ghost Guns and Strengthening Firearm Storage in Motor Vehicles
(HARTFORD, CT) – Joined by advocates, legislators and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz at the State Capitol, Governor Ned Lamont this afternoon held a bill signing ceremony to commemorate the passage of two new laws that will enhance gun safety in Connecticut, including the banning of untraceable “ghost guns” and improving the storage of firearms in motor vehicles. Today also marks National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

As the deadline to apply for the Connecticut State Police approaches, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and the state’s public safety leaders, including Colonel Stavros Mellekas, Deputy Commissioner Regina Rush-Kittle, and State Senator Dennis Bradley, gathered at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden to urge women across the state to choose careers in state police.

Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz hosted the 12th annual Wall of Honor ceremony at the State Capitol in Hartford. Joined by Governor Ned Lamont and Major General Fran Evon, Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard, Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Thomas Saadi, state officials, and military families, the event memorializes the 65 Connecticut troops killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Lt. Governor Bysiewicz & Commissioner Hurlburt Announce 2019 Passport to Connecticut Farm Wineries Program
Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Department of Agriculture Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt and Connecticut farm winery owners gathered at Jones Family Farms & Winery in Shelton today to celebrate the 2019 Passport to Connecticut Farm Wineries program and announce a partnership with the University of Connecticut to develop a new mobile app for participants. The Passport program was formalized by the Department of Agriculture’s Farm Wine Development Council in 2006 to promote and encourage visits to Connecticut’s farm wineries and has since grown to include over 40 wineries and the Connecticut Wine Festival at Goshen Fairgrounds.

Today, Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz encouraged businesses across state to participate in Connecticut Export Week 2019. Organized by the U.S. Commerce Department International Trade Administration in Middletown, Connecticut Export Week is the only free event of its kind in the nation and is designed to encourage more businesses to take the first steps towards going global. Businesses of all sizes looking to grow through exporting can participate in a series of free events and webinars throughout the week and will have access to the experts in building a global marketplace now through Friday, May 3.

LT. GOV. BYSIEWICZ AND MAYOR CARBONE LAUNCH LOCAL COMMITTEE TO PREPARE FOR 2020 CENSUS IN TORRINGTON
Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz joined Mayor Elinor Carbone, local elected officials and community members in at the Torrington Health and Wellness Center to launch the city’s Local Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census. An accurate census count is critically important to Connecticut’s northwest corner as it is the foundation to determine federal funding allocations.
