Governor Lamont Directs State Flags to Half-Staff Saturday in Recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is directing the flag of the State of Connecticut to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, August 31, 2019, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.
The global event is held each year to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends.
“Too often, the stigma of addiction can be a barrier to preventing someone who is in need from seeking help,” Governor Lamont said. “There are resources and treatment options available no matter what stage individuals find themselves. Recovery is possible.”
In Connecticut, those struggling with substance use issues should visit www.liveloud.org or call 1-800-563-4086 for treatment resources.
The state also operates nearly 100 drop boxes where unwanted medication can be safely removed from homes and safely disposed. The drop box locations can be found by visiting www.ct.gov/dropbox.
