TODAY: GOVERNOR MALLOY TO ATTEND UCONN CELL AND
GENOME SCIENCES BUILDING DEDICATION
Governor emphasizes economic development capabilities of university's research facility
Governor Malloy will attend the dedication ceremony for the Cell and Genome Sciences Building at the University of Connecticut Health Center on Monday at noon. The building houses high tech research including the UConn Stem Cell Core, genetic sequencing, computer modeling and incubator space for emerging bioscience industries.
Governor Malloy has been a strong proponent of building on the growing research capabilities of the state's universities, especially in terms of the economic development and job creation potential these types of facilities can attract into Connecticut. Earlier this month, he held a meeting at the State Capitol with incoming UConn President Susan Herbst to discuss the role that the university can play in growing the state's economic development.
