Before applying for certification, please familiarize yourself with the general certification policies.  An EMR applicant must be at least fourteen (14) years old and meet one of the following requirements:
  • Current certification as a First Responder (EMR) by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or by a state or territory maintaining certification requirements equal to or higher than those of this state.

Documentation Requirements

In order to be eligible for an EMR certification based on a current out-of-state license, an applicant shall arrange for the submission of the following documentation directly from the source:
Upon receipt and review of all application materials, this office will determine your eligibility under this route.  Applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements may be required to take the psychomotor and cognitive examinations approved by the Department.  Please see examination section for examination information and documentation requirements.
