The Connecticut Department of Transportation will be holding a Public Information Meeting regarding the intersection improvements to Route 12 at Soap Street in Killingly, Connecticut. The meeting will be held on Thursday November 6, 2008 in the 2nd Floor Town Meeting Room at the Killingly Town Hall, 172 Main Street in Danielson.
State Project No. 68-209 was initiated in anticipation of a driveway entrance for the proposed Killingly High School at the intersection of Route 12 and Soap Street. In accordance with the Connecticut General Statutes and the State Traffic Commission, the State is responsible for improvements to a State road related to a municipally-sponsored major traffic generator.
The existing Y-type junction of Soap Street and Route 12 will be realigned with the proposed school driveway into a four-way signal controlled intersection. Route 12 will be widened for a short distance on the northbound side to provide a right turn lane into the school. Drainage and safety improvements will also be made. Construction, at an estimated cost of $1,200,000, will take place in 2010.
Department personnel and plans of the project will be available during the meeting for discussion. More detailed information can be obtained through the Department of Transportation’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays. Any concerns or discussion of this project can be addressed through Mr. James H. Norman at (860) 594-3272.
Any interested parties are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss this project with Department personnel.
