URGENT MOTORIST ADVISORY FOR INTERSTATE 84 WESTBOUND IN DANBURY
Interstate 84 Westbound to be Closed at 5 p.m. Saturday, September 21, with all Traffic Detoured Onto Route 6/202 At Exit 1 in Connecticut
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that Interstate 84 westbound will be closed at Exit 1 in Danbury from 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 through Sunday, September 22, 2013. The westbound closure is expected to significantly impact streets in the city of Danbury, especially near Exits 2 and 1. Motorists are cautioned that extensive delays may occur along I-84 and the detour roadways that include Route 6/202.
Lane closures and traffic control will begin at 3:30 p.m. on I-84, Route 6/202, and some of the local roads in preparation for the full closure of I-84 westbound occurring at 5 PM Saturday.
The New York State Department of Transportation is replacing two bridges carrying Interstate 84 eastbound and westbound over Dingle Ridge Road in the Town of Southeast, Putnam County. The work is being accelerated to minimize traffic impacts, but will require the interstate to be closed in that area during two weekends. Visit New York’s project web page at https://www.dot.ny.gov/nyi84ct
The I-84 eastbound closure is currently scheduled for October 19-20. On these dates I-84 will be closed at Exit 20 in the Town of Southeast in NY. Traffic will be detoured onto Route 6 in NY and returned to I-84 at Exit 1 in the Town of Danbury, CT.
All traffic traveling on I-84 westbound will be channeled into a single lane and directed off of Exit 1, Route 6/202. Traffic will be directed back onto I-84 at Exit 20 in the Town of Southeast, NY. Be advised Route 6 will be closed to local traffic during the detour. Some turns on local roads will be affected. Please follow the detour signs and direction provided by state and local law enforcement.
For closure and alternative routes information go to https://www.dot.ny.gov/nyi84ct/closures
Depending on the origin of your trip and your final destination it may be appropriate to avoid using Interstate 84 altogether. Travelers with origins north of the work may choose I-90 for their east west travel. Likewise travelers with origins south of the work may choose I-95/ I-287.
Please plan ahead and choose an alternate route.
New York and Connecticut would like to thank you for your patience, and apologize for the inconvenience.
