Culvert Rehabilitation on Connecticut Route 2 in the Towns of Colchester, Marlborough and Preston
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to rehabilitate five culverts along CT Route 2 in the Towns of Colchester, Marlborough and Preston.
The first culvert is located in the Town of
on the expressway portion of CT Route 2 (Veterans of Foreign Wars Highway) approximately 800 feet east of the Marlborough Johnson Road overpass. The culvert consists of a 262 foot long twin 72? Asphalt Coated Corrugated Metal Pipe (ACCMP) carrying a tributary to Lyman Brook.
The second culvert is located in the Town of
also on the expressway portion of CT Route 2 (Veterans of Foreign Wars Highway) approximately 400 feet east of the Wall Street underpass. The culvert consists of an 84? ACCMP approximately 287 feet long conveying a tributary to Meadow Brook. Colchester
The third culvert is located in the Town of
within the two-lane section of CT Route 2 ( Preston Norwich Westerly Road) and is between Hewitt Road and Brickyard Road. The culvert consists of a single 117? x 79? Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) arch approximately 82 feet long conveying Crowley Brook.
The fourth culvert is located in the Town of
within the two-lane section of CT Route 2 ( Preston Norwich Westerly Road) approximately 800 feet west of Maynard Hill Road. The culvert consists of a 103? x 71? ACCMP arch approximately 90 feet long conveying Meyers Brook.
The final culvert is located in the Town of
within the two-lane section of Route 2 ( Preston Norwich Westerly Road) approximately 460 feet west of Mattern Road. The culvert consists of a 117? x 79? CMP arch approximately 55 feet long conveying Hewitt Brook.
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the culverts by performing a method called “Sliplining”. This method utilizes a work area off of the roadway to insert a smaller size pipe into the existing culvert.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. The Department plans to hold a formal public meeting for this project, but does not currently have a set date.
Construction is anticipated to start in spring 2013 and be completed that summer. This project will be undertaken with federal and state funds.
