The DMV’s staff is working diligently to reduce its backlog and to provide critical services to essential businesses. Transactions are being completed as quickly as possible, in the order in which they are received. The average turnaround time is approximately four weeks. The DMV appreciates the public’s patience as it navigates through the COVID-19 pandemic.

License Refunds

Connecticut law does not provide for a refund on a Connecticut operator's license fee.  However, if an individual renews his/her license and becomes deceased before the expiration of his/her previous license (birthday), a refund can be issued to the heirs on the grounds that the renewed license was never used.

To request a reimbursement, please submit a letter explaining the set of circumstances.  Be sure to include the recently renewed license and a copy of the operator's Certificate of Death and mail to:
