State Police Promote 5 to Captain

The Connecticut State Police has promoted five Lieutenants to the rank of Captain.  Acting Public Safety Commissioner Danny Stebbins today promoted the lieutenants during a ceremony at Connecticut State Police Headquarters in Middletown.

Promoted from Lieutenant to Captain were:  Thomas Begert, Stephen Castagliuolo, Michael Darcy, Edwin Henion and Brian McLean.

Captain Thomas Begert

Captain Begert is being assigned as the executive officer of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations.  He most recently served as the commanding officer of Troop I in Bethany.  After graduating from the State Police Training Academy in March 1988, he was assigned to Troop A in Southbury.  In 1997, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served at Troop G in Bridgeport, the Western District and Troop A.  In 2002, he was promoted to Master Sergeant and assigned to Troop A as the executive officer.  Two years later, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as commanding officer of Troops A and B, as well as in Crimes Analysis and the Background Investigation Unit.

Captain Stephen Castagliuolo

With his promotion, Captain Castagliuolo will be the Commanding Officer of the State Police Training Academy.  He most recently served as acting deputy district commander of Eastern District Headquarters.  Captain Castagliuolo graduated from the State Police Training Academy in March 1988 and was assigned to Troop D in Danielson. He has served at Troop E in Montville and at the State Police Training Academy.  He was promoted in 1996 to the rank of Sergeant, after which he served at Troop E and at the Office of Professional Standards.  In 2002, he was promoted to Lieutenant and since then has served at the Casino Unit, Research and Planning Unit, Troop F, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Statewide Narcotics Task Force.

Captain Michael Darcy

            Captain Darcy is assigned as the commanding officer of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force.  He most recently served as chief of staff in the Office of Field Operations.  With his graduation from the State Police Training Academy in September 1988, Captain Darcy was assigned to Troop E in Montville.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 1997 and served at Troop C in Tolland, Troop D in Danielson and as Resident Trooper Supervisor at the Mansfield Resident Trooper’s Office.  In 2004, he was promoted to Lieutenant and had assignments in the Statewide Narcotics Task Force and at Troops D and E.

Captain Edwin Henion

            With his promotion from Lieutenant, Captain Henion is being assigned as executive officer of the Western District Headquarters.  After graduating from the State Police Training Academy in April 1990, Captain Henion was assigned to Troop G in Bridgeport.  During his career, he has served at Troop A, in Governor’s Security and as a Resident Trooper in Redding.

He was promoted in 1997 to Sergeant and served at Troops G and A and in the Research and Planning Unit.  Following that, he was promoted to Master Sergeant and served at Troop B.  He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2004 and served as commanding of the Western District Major Crime Squad, as chief of staff in the Office of Field Operations and, most recently, as chief of staff to the commissioner.

Captain Brian McLean

With his promotion, Captain McLean is being assigned as the executive officer of the Central District Headquarters.   Lt. McLean graduated from the State Police Training Academy on August 3, 1984 and was assigned to Troop F in Westbrook.  During his career, he has been assigned to serve at Troop I in Bethany and the Central District Major Crime Squad. Captain McLean was promoted to Sergeant in 1994 and served at Troops H, I and F.  In 2001, he was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to Troop F and the Central District Major Crime Squad.  Captain McLean also has served as Chief of Staff in the Office of Field Operations and was acting deputy district commander for Central District Headquarters.
