Kathleen Murphy, Ph.D.

Kathleen J. Murphy, Ph.D. graduated from Holy Cross College with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology.  She earned a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from Assumption College.  Her pre-Doctoral internship was completed at Worcester State Hospital and the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.  Her Doctoral dissertation examined the MMPI, which is the forensic assessment instrument most commonly used today in all types of Court proceedings.  She graduated with a Doctorate in counseling psychology from Texas A&M University.
Prior to relocating to Connecticut, Dr. Murphy taught psychology courses to college students at Blinn College and inmates at Navasota PAC II prison for six years.  In addition to teaching, she maintained a private practice which specialized in psychological assessment.  As a provider of psychological evaluations for Probate Court, Juvenile Court, and the Department of Children and Families, she made recommendations regarding treatment, custody, commitment, adoption, and termination of parental rights of minors placed in state care.  She served on a panel of providers for Probate Court that made recommendations regarding placement, sterilization, and guardianship of persons unable to give informed consent.  She also provided expert witness testimony in Juvenile Court and Probate Court in child protection cases.
In Connecticut, Dr. Murphy worked as a consultant for the University of Connecticut Health Science Center where she assessed the mental health needs of inmates.  She also served as a Probate Court Judge for seven years presiding over adoptions, guardianships, conservatorships, termination of parental rights, emancipation of minors, trusts, decedent’s estates, civil marriages and unions, and compromise of claims cases in this elected position.  When this position ended because of the consolidation of the Probate Courts, she joined the Department of Developmental Services as the Director of Eligibility.
