Safety Alert
DDS is issuing this Safety Alert following a carbon monoxide poisoning incident that occurred in a supervised living facility in Manchester, CT. Five people (two consumers and three staff members) were transported to Hartford Hospital, four with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, after they were exposed to high concentrations of the carbon monoxide gas in the facility.
According to a press release from the Manchester Fire Department, fire department personnel determined the carbon monoxide gas was concentrated up to 223 parts per million in the residence, "a very dangerous concentration," officials said. An investigation revealed that a cracked heat exchanger in a natural gas furnace was the source of the gas.
