About the Office of Communications and Studio Production
Office of Communications
The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Office of Communications manages all internal and external communications for the agency. The family newsletter Direct to Families is published in both English and Spanish three times a year and sent to over 15,000 families. Communications also sends the DDS Employee News to over 4,500 employees bi-weekly.
In addition to the publications, the Office of Communications is responsible for the DDS website. The site offers families an opportunity to monitor department news, events, and research supports and services. It is a resource for department contacts and helpful links to national organizations and statewide services.
The Office of Communications manages and tracks all constituent requests. Over 800 requests are received each year, ranging from requesting eligibility packets to specific help for a family. On average, the Office of Communications responds within five days to all requests. In addition to constituent requests, Communications responds to all media inquiries.
Over the years, the office has planned major press events for the department, such as Living Out Loud, an art show held at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford for consumers of the department, and respite center grand openings.
