State Employment is the family business

On September 21, DAS HR staff attended the Veterans and Diversity Hiring Expo at the Hartford Athletic stadium in Hartford.

HR staff did a tremendous job of representing DAS and estimate that they spoke to about 150-200 jobseekers in total

In addition to HR Staff were State employees Alexis Cortes and her sister Stephanie Cortes. Alexis works as an Equal Employment Opportunity Leadership Associate for DAS and Stephanie is a Connecticut State Trooper. It was a truly unique experience for them to recruit alongside one another.

The family has an appreciation for state service as their father works for the Department of Correction. They have known the importance of the mission, work, and service that state agencies and state employees provide to communities across Connecticut and share in the effort to recruit diverse talent to agencies across the State.

There were also really good results at the job fair including:

  • There were 117 employers in attendance at the Expo and 800 total jobseekers who attended.

  • About 70 jobseekers signed up to receive a follow-up email at the conclusion of the event.

  • DAS, State Police, DOL, DOT, SVA, the Office of the State Comptroller, and DCF were in attendance at the fair.

  • DAS HR shared with jobseekers how to find open jobs for agencies in the Executive Branch, fill out interest cards, create an account, and fill out a master application.

  • Jobseekers with wide range of experience attended the event.

While the focus of the day was recruiting and informing visitors to the DAS booth, the feeling is not lost that if you come to work for the state of Connecticut, you can get a real sense of family with your fellow coworkers, have an amazing impact on the state of Connecticut and enjoy a rewarding career.
