Wataba Lake, Ridgefield
Wataba Lake also referred to as Rainbow Lake is a 41-acre waterbody in Ridgefield, CT. The lake has several houses along the shoreline and a private beach managed by the Ridgefield Lakes Association. Our 2014 IAPP survey found four species in the lake with native leafy pondweed (Potamogeton foliosus) as the most dominant species. We found a small amount of the invasive curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus) and native western waterweed (Elodea nuttallii) and common duckweed (Lemna minor) mostly in the shallow portions of the lake. We also noted some common reed (Phragmites australis) along the shoreline as well as an algal bloom during our survey. The low species diversity could be attributed to the significant amount of algae.
