Well Drilling Licenses and Scope of Work

W-1 Unlimited Well Driller Contractor

This registration permits the registrant to engage in well construction.

Requirements:

The applicant requirements for this registration shall be twenty-four (24) months as a well driller or having held a valid W-2 registration for at least two years.  The applicant must achieve a passing score on the written examination for this registration offered by the Department.

 

W-2 Unlimited Well Driller

This registration permits the registrant to construct a well, including but not limited to, the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps, pump motors, pump piping, valves, wiring, electric controls and tanks.  The registrant may only perform this work while in the direct and regular employment of a contractor registered for this work.

Requirements:

The applicant requirements for this registration shall be twenty-four (24) months as a driller trainee or possess the equivalent experience and training.  The applicant must achieve a passing score on the written examination for this registration offered by the Department.

 

W-3 Limited Non-Water-Supply Contractor

This registration permits the registrant to construct a non-water-supply well, including but not limited to, the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps, pump motors, pump piping, valves, wiring, electric controls, and tanks.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be at least twenty-four (24) months as a well driller or having held a valid W-4 registration for at least two years.  The applicant must achieve a passing score on the written examination for this registration offered by the Department.

 

W-4 Limited Non-Water-Supply Driller

This registration permits the registrant to construct a non-water-supply well, including, but not limited to, the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps, pump motors, pump piping, valves, wiring, electric controls and tanks.  The registrant may only perform this work while in the direct and regular employment of a contractor registered for this work.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be one (1) year as a driller trainee or the equivalent experience and training.  The applicant must achieve a passing score on the written examination for this registration offered by the Department.

 

W-5 Limited Well Casing Extension Contractor

This registration permits the registrant to perform well casing extension, repair and maintenance work.  The registrant’s ability to repair is limited solely to the well casing extension and excludes any other parts of a well.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be a contractor license to perform plumbing and piping work pursuant to Chapter 393 of the Connecticut General Statutes.  The applicant for this registration must achieve a passing score on the written examination offered by the Department.

 

W-6 Limited Well Casing Extension Journeyperson

This registration permits the registrant to perform well casing extension, repair, and maintenance work only while in the employ of a contractor licensed for this work.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be a journeyperson’s license to perform plumbing and piping work pursuant to Chapter 393 of the Connecticut General Statutes.  The applicant for this registration must achieve a passing score on the written examination offered by the Department.

 

W-7 Limited Geothermal Contractor

This registration permits the registrant to construct a geothermal bore hole or geothermal system, up to and including the manifold connection, including, but not limited to, the installation, repair, and maintenance of piping, casing, heat transfer media, pumps, pump motors, and valves.  This registration excludes work on direct exchange systems.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be twenty-four (24) months as a geothermal bore hole driller or having held a valid W-8 registration for at least two years.  The applicant for this registration must achieve a passing score on the written examination offered by the Department.

 

 

W-8 Limited Geothermal Driller

This registration permits the registrant to construct a geothermal bore hole or geothermal system, up to and including the manifold connection, including, but not limited to, the installation, repair and maintenance of piping, casing, heat transfer media, pumps, pump motors, and valves.  The registrant may only perform this work while in the direct and regular employment of a contractor registered for this work.  This registration excludes work on direct exchange systems.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be one (1) year as a geothermal driller trainee or the equivalent experience and training.  The applicant for this registration must achieve a passing score on the written examination offered by the Department.

 

W-9 Limited Direct Exchange Geothermal Contractor

This registration permits the registrant to construct a geothermal bore hole or geothermal system, up to and including the manifold connection, but limited to those geothermal bore holes employing direct exchange or direct expansion technology, including but not limited to, drilling associated with the installation of copper or other piping containing a direct exchange heat transfer medium, the installation, repair and maintenance of piping, casing, and heat transfer media.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be twenty-four (24) months as a direct exchange driller or having held a valid W-10 registration for at least two (2) years.  The applicant for this registration must achieve a passing score on the written examination offered by the Department.

 

W-10 Limited Direct Exchange Geothermal Driller

This registration permits the registrant to construct a geothermal bore hole or geothermal system up to and including the manifold connection, but limited to those bore holes employing direct exchange or direct expansion technology, and associated components of a direct exchange geothermal system.  This includes but is not limited to, drilling associated with the installation of copper or other piping containing a direct exchange heat transfer medium, the installation, repair and maintenance of piping, casing, and heat transfer media.  The registrant may only perform this work while in the direct and regular employment of a contractor registered for this work.

Requirements:

The requirements for this registration shall be one (1) year as a direct exchange geothermal driller trainee or the equivalent experience and training.  The applicant for this registration must achieve a passing score on the written examination offered by the Department.

 

Driller Trainee

A driller trainee may perform the work for which they are being trained, only while in the presence and under the supervision of a registered contractor driller.  Such driller trainee may also perform minimal cleaning work while not in the presence of such supervising contractor or driller.
