Written Directions to Wilderness School
From Bridgeport, Stamford and Danbury:
Take route Route 8 North to Winsted.
When divided highway ends, continue on Rt.8 North (right at traffic light off highway exit and right at first light in Winsted at Northwestern Community Technical College ).
Follow Rt. 8 North until junction of Rt. 20 East (Wilderness School is 13 miles from here.) Take RT. 20 East through Riverton and West Hartland.
Rt. 20 East will descend a long hill, passing a view of Barkhamsted Reservoir on the right. Continue across a small bridge and begin a steep climb towards East Hartland.
Wilderness School is 2.1 miles from the base of the long hill and small bridge, and the school entrance is on the right side of the road (look for log buildings). You will pass a State DOT garage on the left prior to reaching our entrance.
(If you reach the junction of Rt. 20 and Rt. 179, you have gone too far.)
From Hartford Area, Points South, Points East (i.e. New Haven, Willimantic):
Take I-91 North to Exit 40 for Granby, Rt. 20 (Bradley International Airport exit). Follow extension road to Granby exit.
Take Rt. 20 West to Granby. Continue through Granby on Rt. 20 W. towards East Hartland.
At the center of East Hartland (junction of Rt. 20 and Rt. 179) continue on Rt. 20 West.
Travel approximately 1 mile from town center. Wilderness School will be on the left side of the road (look for log cabin buildings).
(If you descend a long hill you have gone too far.)
Alternate Route from West of the River:
Take Rt. 189 (off of Rt. 44 in West Hartford/Hartford line) through Bloomfield to Granby.
Take Rt. 20 West to East Hartland Follow directions from East Hartland Center listed above.
