Apply for a CT Hoisting Equipment Operator License

Overview

A Connecticut Hoisting Equipment Operator License is required to operate hoisting equipment meeting all of the following criteria:

  • Motorized equipment; 
  • Used in construction, demolition or excavation work;
  • At a construction site of a project that
    a. Is other than residential structures of less than four stories and
    b. Estimated cost of which is more than $1,250,000;
  • With manufacturer’s rated lifting capacity exceeding 5 tons; and
  • Manufacturer’s rated maximum reach in excess of 32 feet.

 
If your equipment does not meet ALL of the above, it is not regulated by this department.

This is a two-year license.

All applicants are required to take and pass a written exam. The exam is given approximately every four to eight weeks. Exam dates and locations are notified by mail.
